2027 Hyundai Kona
2027 Hyundai Kona
Long highway runs toward the foothills, chinook swings that turn a dry road icy by morning, and hard cold that settles in for weeks: Calgary driving asks a lot of a daily vehicle. The 2027 Hyundai Kona arrives in five Canadian trims: Essential, Preferred, Preferred Trend, Luxury and N Line Ultimate. Four of them run a 2.0 L four-cylinder with 147 hp, and the N Line steps up to a turbocharged 1.6 L making 190 hp.
All-wheel drive is standard on the top three trims and available on the Essential and Preferred, which also come in front-wheel drive. Cargo room reaches 1,803 L with the rear seats folded, and a dual-level cargo floor is standard on all five trims. Heated front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a driver-assistance suite also come standard. The sections below walk through the design, the technology, both engines and how the trims are laid out.
What’s new on the 2027 Hyundai Kona?

Exterior
The Kona’s face shifts from trim to trim. Roof rails and rear privacy glass begin at the Preferred. The Preferred Trend and Luxury add premium dark grey body cladding and chrome window belt moulding, along with a power tilt-and-slide sunroof on the Preferred Trend and above. Full-line LED daytime running lights and LED turn signals inside the headlights and taillights are standard on the Luxury and the N Line. The N Line has its own character. Its front fascia and grille, rear bumper with diffuser and N Line emblems on the grille and fender are exclusive to it, and the cladding is body-coloured. A two-tone body colour is offered on this trim alone, which gives the Kona a sportier stance than its siblings. Size is a plus in tight parking lots. The Luxury measures 4,350 mm long, 1,825 mm wide and 1,610 mm tall on a 2,660 mm wheelbase, and the Preferred Trend shares those figures. The N Line stretches slightly to 4,385 mm in length and 1,615 mm in height. Ground clearance is 205 mm with AWD and 170 mm with FWD on the Essential and Preferred, and 210 mm on the N Line. For snowy Alberta side streets, that extra height under the body matters. Wheels grow with the trims: 17-inch aluminum on the Essential, 18-inch on the Preferred, Preferred Trend and Luxury, and 19-inch on the N Line.

Interior
Materials separate the trims clearly. Cloth seats cover the Essential and Preferred, leatherette the Preferred Trend and Luxury, and leather and suede combination seats with red accents and stitching the N Line. That trim also gets metal sport pedals, deluxe door scuff plates and paddle shifters on a shift-by-wire system. A leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel is standard from the Preferred up. Ventilated front seats are exclusive to the N Line, and the Luxury and N Line both carry an 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support. The cabin seats five. Front headroom measures 974 mm on the Luxury and Preferred Trend, with 1,059 mm of front legroom and 970 mm in the second row. The 60/40 split rear seats fold down, and cargo space measures 723 L behind the rear seats and 1,803 L with them folded. The dual-level cargo floor gives you a flat load surface or a lower well for taller items. Two USB-C outlets sit up front and two in the rear, and four cup holders are standard. Heated front seats suit those sub-zero Calgary starts, and remote start on the key fob is standard on every trim.
Features

Powertrain

Combined consumption is 7.5 L/100 km on the Essential with FWD and 7.6 L/100 km on the Preferred with FWD.With AWD, the Essential rates 8.5 L/100 km combined, and the Preferred, Preferred Trend and Luxury rate 8.6 L/100 km. The N Line is the only trim with the turbocharged 1.6 L four-cylinder, rated at 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Its torque is available from 1,700 rpm, which suits merging onto Highway 2 or climbing toward the mountains. AWD is standard, and it comes with a 50 L fuel tank and a combined rating of 9.1 L/100 km. All-wheel drive on every trim includes Active Cornering Control.

Wireless device charging joins the Preferred Trend, Luxury and N Line, alongside Hyundai Digital Key. Audio steps up as well: a 6-speaker system on the first three trims, then a Bose premium system with 8 speakers on the Luxury and N Line. Those two trims also swap the 4.2-inch colour cluster display for a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, which keeps trip data and driver information in a single sweep of the eyes on long highway trips.Safety: Every Kona carries Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, Driver Attention Warning and Rear Occupant Alert.
